Introducing Our New Identity: From HAND to Housing&
For over 30 years, the Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers (HAND) has stood as a cornerstone of the Capital Region’s affordable housing movement. What began in 1991 as a professional home for nonprofit real estate developers has evolved into a dynamic, cross-sector coalition committed to addressing the complex, interconnected issues that shape where and how people live. Today, that evolution becomes official: HAND is now Housing&.
Why Housing&?
Because housing is never just housing. It is deeply connected to the systems that define opportunity and equity—healthcare, education, transportation, food access, workforce development, financial stability, and more. Housing& reflects this reality. It honors the full scope of our work and the lived experiences of the communities we serve.
Our New Name, Same Purposeful Mission
This change is more than a rebrand—it’s a reintroduction of our purpose. Housing& is a name rooted in action, inclusion, and partnership. It signals our commitment to convening diverse voices, educating changemakers, and activating bold, intersectional solutions that move beyond bricks and mortar.
