A DASHBOARD FOR MEASURING PROGRESS TOWARDS MEETING REGIONAL HOUSING NEEDS

“Racism, racist policies, racist systems, and racist outcomes will
persist until it is in our economic, political, and cultural interests to choose otherwise.”

Ibram X. Kendi, Author, How to Be an Antiracist
The above quote was shared with our members during HOUSING&’s Racial Equity Learning Series (March 2020).

Housing&’s Housing Indicator Tool – bolstered by the Urban Institute’s data collection – tells us that low-to-moderate income households experience the greatest housing needs. In 2024, in the Greater DC region, 25,930 new housing units were added (25,000 targeted) and 4,542 committed affordable units were added (13,600 targeted). The data reveals a pressing need for more affordable units across income levels, particularly for households with incomes below 30 percent of the area median income.
