As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Nehemiah HDFC is dedicated to strengthening communities through the development of high-quality, affordable housing. Founded in the 1990s as the development arm of East Brooklyn Congregations (EBC), Nehemiah HDFC grew out of a grassroots movement determined to rebuild neighborhoods abandoned by disinvestment and neglect.
Since its inception, Nehemiah has remained fiercely committed to its mission: creating affordable housing opportunities that protect communities from the destabilizing effects of gentrification. To date, Nehemiah has developed over 4,900 affordable housing units across Brooklyn and the Bronx, with more than 1,300 additional units currently in the planning or construction stages. Our portfolio includes a range of single- and multi-family homes, rental apartments, and senior housing — all designed to foster long-term community stability and growth.
